Some nine illegal miners remanded by Obuasi Circuit Court

Some nine illegal miners has remanded  into police custody by The Obuasi Circuit Court, presided over by His Lordship Mark Tairima Diboro,  for engaging in illegal mining (galamsey) at Adaase, a farming community in the Obuasi Municipality.

The accused who are set to reappear in court on February 27, 2025 have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime—illegal mining—and causing destruction to natural resources like lands and river bodies.

The suspects were arrested during a special operation by a joint taskforce made up of the Military, Police, and National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) who were on a duty to crack down on illegal mining activities.

Lawyer Osei Akomeah, counsel for the complainant, speaking to journalist after proceedings expressed confidence in the ongoing fight against galamsey, stating that with effective legal action, the menace can be curbed.

Nana Gyamerah Kwabena Yiakwan II, Kwapiahene, called for quick prosecution of the culprits to ensure justice is served to serve as deterent to other people who engage in illegal mining in the area
