2025 Independence Day to be held at Jubilee House to cut cost -Presidency

The Presidency has announced that the 2025 Independence Day celebration will be celebrated at the Jubilee House instead of the usual or traditional grand ceremony on rotational bases nationwide

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications, who disclosed the matter during a brief press briefing Wednesday, said the decision was necessary as part of efforts to reduce government expenditure amid ongoing economic challenges.

Hon. Kwakye Ofosu disclosed that “The rotational hosting of Independence Day celebrations across regional capitals had significantly increased costs. A review found that these events placed a heavy financial burden on the national budget, with the last celebration costing GH¢15 million,”

“In the spirit of cutting down on government expenditure on non-essential spending, President John Dramani Mahama has instructed that the rotational policy be suspended,” Mr Felix stated.

Mr. Felix Ofosu Kwakye maintained that though Independence Day remains a historic ceremony worth celebrating, the state must do so by taking into consideration the current economic crises and other sectors of the state that need much-needed attention

According to him, the program in its new form will feature a military guard of honour reviewed by the president, cultural performances, and poetry recitals for school pupils, as well as Chiefs, religious leaders, political party representatives, students, traders, and other key stakeholders, will be in attendance to grace the occasion.

Ghana will be marking her 68th Independent Anniversary on Friday 7th March, 2025.
