Government revokes post Dec. 7th 2024 public sector appointments

Government Revokes All Public Sector Appointments and Recruitments Made After December 7, 2024
Accra, February 11 2025 – The Office of the President has issued a directive revoking all appointments and recruitments made in the Public Services of Ghana after December 7, 2024.
The decision was stated in an official letter signed by Mr Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff to the President citing non-compliance with good governance principles as the reason for the decision.
According to the letter, all Heads of Government Institutions are required to take immediate steps to nullify such appointments and recruitments.
Additionally, they are to submit a comprehensive report on the actions taken to the Office of the President by February 17, 2025.
In a similar directive, Mr Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Spokesperson to the President confirmed the decision and reiterated that the anomalies were detected during the transition period claiming some of these recruitments did not go through the appropriate legal processes as they were charaterused with partisan decision hence the need to sanitise the government payroll .
This directive follows the government’s earlier announcement on January 15th regarding the termination of tenure-related appointments and recruitments as the current administration nears the end of its term.
Government institutions across the country are now expected to comply with this directive, which will significantly impact individuals appointed or recruited into the public service after the stated date.
Though some session of Ghanaian believed the move is governments commitment to upholding accountability and proper administrative procedures within the public sector, others believe it will impact the employment sector and may raise legal issues.
