President Mahama announces constitutional review committee
Accra-19-01-2025, President John Dramani Mahama has on Sunday 19th January 2025 inaugurated an eight member constitutional review committee to initiate processes into advancing Ghana’s constitutional review
The committee, chaired by Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh, comprises notable experts, including Justice Sophia Adinyirah, Prof. Kwame Karikari, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, Dr. Godwin Djokoto, Ibrahim Tanko Amidu, Dr. Esi Ansah, and Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya, who serves as secretary.
The President has mandated the committee to address gaps and challenges in the 2010 Constitutional Review Commission’s work, engaging stakeholders, and recommending actionable amendments to the 1992 Constitution. These efforts aim to enhance democratic governance in Ghana.
President Mahama emphasized the importance of involving individuals with proven expertise and dedication to ensure good governance. The committee is expected to submit its recommendations for constitutional amendments within five months for government consideration.
This announcement has proven the government’s commitment to managing a transparent and all-inclusive constitutional review process.
