Education Ministry Assesses Site for Shime SHTS to Bridge Educational Gap in Anloga District

ANLOGA, Volta Region — September 02 2026

The proposed establishment of the Shime Senior High Technical School in the Anloga District has taken another step forward following a working visit by a technical team from the Ministry of Education to the proposed site at Azanu in the Shime enclave.

The visit forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing assessment and follow-up process on the proposal to establish a secondary school in the area, with the team seeking first-hand information on the site and the educational needs of communities within the Shime and Kome areas.

The proposed school is expected to be constructed on approximately 40 acres of land provided at Azanu by the local community.

During the visit, the technical team inspected the proposed site and engaged stakeholders to better understand the circumstances necessitating the establishment of the institution, as well as the requirements for its development.

Mr Richard Kwame Sefe, the Member of Parliament for the Anloga Constituency, led an entourage to receive the team and facilitate the assessment.

Mr Sefe expressed appreciation to the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and his technical team for their attention to the proposal, as well as the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, for his support towards the initiative.

Background to the Proposal

The proposal for a new secondary school in the Shime area dates back to October 2025, when the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, announced plans for the construction of a new Community Senior High School in the area within 24 months after consistent proposals from key stakeholders, including political and traditional leaders from the Anlo area.

The latest assessment constitutes another major engagement in the process, following an earlier visit by officials of the GETFund Inspectorate Board to Azanu to inspect the land allocated by the community for the proposed school.

The MP commended the District Chief Executive, Madam Seyram Kpedor, Mr Vincent Kaledzi (Togbi Xornametor I), as well as opinion leaders from the Trekume and Azanu communities, for their cooperation and support throughout the process.

Speaking to veritasnewsgh.com on the matter, he pledged his readiness to work with the Ministry of Education, the Anloga District Assembly, traditional authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders to advance the project.

“The journey continues, and I remain committed to working with all stakeholders to see this dream become a reality. Together, let us continue to develop the Anloga District,” he said.

The proposed Shime Senior High Technical School is expected to strengthen educational infrastructure in the Anloga District and improve access to secondary and technical education for young people in the eastern part of the district.

The district currently has five second-cycle institutions, comprising Anlo Senior High School, Zion College, Volta Senior High School–Agbledomi, Anlo Technical Institute and Atorkor Technical Institute.

However, the concentration of these institutions along the coastal belt presents an access challenge for students from communities around Shime and Kome, particularly those who have to travel longer distances to access secondary or technical education.

The proposed school is therefore expected to bridge that geographical gap by bringing secondary and technical education closer to communities in the Shime enclave and surrounding areas.

Beyond expanding access, the institution could also provide young people with opportunities to pursue academic and technical education and acquire vocational skills relevant to employment and local economic development.

Stakeholders engaged by veritasnewsgh say the continued engagement with the Ministry of Education is therefore critical to moving the proposal through the necessary technical and administrative processes towards the eventual establishment of the school.
