The Volta Region Boys’ Soccer Team has been disqualified from the ongoing National Basic School Games in Accra for fielding an ineligible player.
The disqualification has ended the team’s hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals after an impressive group-stage campaign.
Volta Region topped their group with seven points from three matches, recording two wins and suffering a penalty shootout defeat to the Greater Accra Region.
However, the team’s strong performance has been overshadowed by the eligibility breach, resulting in their elimination from the competition.
According to Volta Region Sports 360’s blog on facebook, The development comes as a major setback to the Volta contingent, particularly after their impressive performance at the regional level and strong showing in the national competition.
The team will now return home and begin preparations for the next edition of the National Basic School Games.
