Xornam Favour Pledges “Akpé Dada” Welfare Fund to Strengthen Ketu South NDC Women

Aflao-Ketu South (V/R) – August 18 2026

Madam Xornam Favour Alaye-Housey, an aspirant for the position of Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ketu South Constituency, has announced plans to establish a dedicated welfare fund for women party executives if elected.

The proposed fund, to be known as “Akpé Dada Fund”, will provide periodic welfare support to eligible women executives, either monthly or quarterly, to assist with basic needs, medical check-ups, healthcare and other essential welfare concerns, subject to available resources and agreed eligibility criteria.

Madam Alaye-Housey announced the initiative on Monday morning during one of her campaign engagements in the constituency

Speaking to Veritasnewsgh.com Tuesday afternoon on her motivation for the initiative, she said the fund forms part of her commitment to building a Women’s Wing where the contributions and sacrifices of women serving the party are recognised and valued.

“The vision is not simply to provide financial assistance, but to build a culture where service to the party is recognised and those who have served are not forgotten,” she said.

She explained that the fund would initially focus on women executives, with the possibility of extending support to other deserving party executives as the initiative grows and resources permit. She further explained that the initial focus on women executives was deliberate,

“For now, the Akpé Dada Fund will focus specifically on women executives because our immediate responsibility is to address the welfare needs within the Women’s Wing,” Madam Alaye-Housey stated.

She further emphasised that her approach to leadership would be centred on service, compassion and responsibility, saying Leadership is about service, compassion and responsibility. We must build a party that remembers its people not only when we need their votes, but also when they need our support,” she added.

Her campaign has therefore been built around a broader vision of a Women’s Wing that is not only politically active but also empowered, educated, organised and responsive to the welfare needs of its members.

Focus on Women’s Empowerment
The proposed fund forms part of Madam Alaye-Housey’s campaign agenda, which places women’s empowerment, political education and leadership development at the centre of her bid.

At the launch of her campaign, she outlined plans to promote programmes aimed at equipping women with the knowledge, skills and confidence required to participate effectively in party organisation, political leadership and democratic processes.

Her proposed interventions include political education, electoral education and leadership and capacity-building programmes, which she believes would help women executives and members better understand the political process and strengthen their ability to contribute meaningfully to the party’s activities and decision-making structures.

Madam Xornam Favour Alaye-Housey, who currently serves as Deputy Women’s Organiser of the Ketu South Constituency NDC, is seeking election as the substantive Women’s Organiser.

Her campaign is anchored on a vision of a stronger and more empowered Women’s Wing that combines effective political mobilisation with practical welfare support, education and leadership development.

The Akpé Dada Fund is therefore intended to provide tangible support to women who continue to contribute to the party at the grassroots and constituency levels, while reinforcing her broader commitment to their welfare and development.
