Prof. Bokpin urges stronger support for indigenous businesses at PFM workshop for journalists

Prof. Godfred A. Bokpin has called on Ghana to intentionally support indigenous businesses so they can grow from micro to small, medium and eventually large enterprises capable of competing nationally and globally.
He made the remarks at a two-day capacity-building workshop for journalists on public financial management, where participants were trained on the role of the media in promoting accountability, tracking public spending and improving oversight in Ghana’s PFM system.
Prof. Bokpin said Ghana must stop allowing political changes to disrupt businesses and taxpayers, and instead create a stable environment for local firms to grow. He also stressed that journalists have a key role in exposing misuse of public funds and helping citizens understand how public resources are managed.
The workshop, organised under the PAIReD programme, brought together media and civil society actors to strengthen budget analysis, expenditure tracking and evidence-based reporting on fiscal decentralisation.
