Hohoe Assembly Hands Over Record 1,600 Desks to Basic Schools

Hohoe (Volta Region) July 2026

The Hohoe Municipal Assembly has distributed 1,600 mono desks to 40 basic schools across the municipality in a major effort to improve teaching and learning conditions.

The presentation, held on July 13, 2026, marks the largest single distribution of school furniture by the Assembly, with the desks procured through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

Speaking at the ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Prosper Kumi, said the initiative underscores the Assembly’s commitment to creating a conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers.

“This is the largest single furniture distribution undertaken by the Assembly. It reflects our commitment to ensuring that every child has a comfortable and dignified place to learn,” Mr Kumi said.

He disclosed that the Assembly would soon roll out another phase of support, which will include the distribution of teachers’ tables and chairs as well as furniture for 12 selected kindergarten schools across the municipality.

The Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Mr Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, indicated his commitment to improving educational infrastructure, revealing that a new school is under construction, while additional classroom blocks and renovation projects are also in the pipeline to address the municipality’s growing educational needs.

The NDC Constituency Chairman, Mr Newton Darkey, urged school authorities and pupils to properly maintain the desks to ensure their durability and enable future generations to benefit from the investment.

The furniture distribution forms part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to bridge infrastructure gaps, enhance the quality of basic education, and provide a more conducive environment for effective teaching and learning across the Hohoe Municipality.
