Renowned Energy Jurist Lom Nuku Ahlijah Headlines GHIPCON 2026 Policy Dialogue

Renowned energy law expert, corporate attorney, and legal academic, Lawyer Lom Nuku Ahlijah, Esq., has been confirmed as one of the distinguished speakers for the Ghana International Petroleum Conference (GHIPCON) 2026, where he is expected to deliver expert insights on policy, regulation, and investment strategies shaping the future of Ghana’s petroleum downstream sector.

The two-day conference, scheduled for Thursday 16th to Friday 17th, July 2026, will take place at The Palms Convention Centre, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, Accra, under the theme: “Building a Resilient Downstream: Policy, Innovation and Investment for Growth.”

Widely regarded as one of Ghana’s premier petroleum industry gatherings, GHIPCON 2026 will convene policymakers, regulators, investors, industry leaders, development partners, and energy professionals to explore practical strategies for strengthening the downstream petroleum sector amid global energy transition, economic uncertainty, infrastructure challenges, and increasing demands for sustainable investment.

Lawyer Ahlijah, Managing Attorney of Integri Solicitors and Advocates, is a leading energy law expert with extensive experience in regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and commercial transactions. He authored Ghana’s first textbook on energy law and policy and previously served as legal counsel for GRIDCo.

A dual-qualified lawyer in Ghana and New York, USA, he holds an LL.M. from Harvard Law School and serves as a Senior Lecturer at GIMPA. His expertise is expected to enrich discussions on reforms shaping Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.

Beyond academia and private legal practice, Lawyer Ahlijah has contributed to several strategic national energy initiatives, including the Ghana Nuclear Power Programme Organisation Lawyers’ Group and the Energy Sector Cash Waterfall Committee, where he has provided legal expertise on critical policy and governance matters.

Speaking to Veritas News GH ahead of the conference, Lawyer Ahlijah said GHIPCON 2026 presents an important opportunity to advance conversations on policy reforms and sustainable investment in Ghana’s energy sector.

“GHIPCON 2026 presents an important platform to examine the legal, regulatory, and investment frameworks needed to build a more resilient and sustainable downstream petroleum sector. I look forward to sharing insights that can support innovation, strengthen governance, and unlock opportunities for growth,” he said.

He further stressed the need for a strong legal and regulatory environment to drive long-term sector growth.

“The future of Ghana’s energy sector requires strategic policy direction, investor confidence, and a strong legal foundation. My contribution will focus on practical pathways for navigating regulatory challenges while creating an enabling environment for sustainable energy development.”

His presentation is expected to provide practical perspectives on regulatory reforms, compliance frameworks, investment structures, and governance mechanisms required to strengthen Ghana’s downstream petroleum value chain and attract sustainable investment.

Other prominent speakers expected at the conference include Saeed Ahmed, Managing Director of Matrix Gas Ghana; Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition; Dr. Dramani Bukari, Deputy Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority; and Mr. Michael Cozumbil, Chief Executive Officer of Petrosol Platinum Energy, alongside other distinguished industry stakeholders.
