The Volta Regional Peace Council has intensified efforts to promote peaceful coexistence among students by organising a series of Peace Education Programmes in three senior high and technical schools across the region.

The engagements, held at Ho Technical Institute, Ziavi Senior High Technical School and Abutia Senior High Technical School, were organised under the theme, “Understanding Conflict and Building Peaceful Co-existence.” The initiative forms part of the Council’s commitment to nurturing a culture of dialogue, tolerance and non-violence among young people.

Mr David Normanyo, Executive Director, Volta NPC, Addressing the students stressed that while academic excellence and technical skills are essential for success, values such as integrity, discipline, mutual respect and the ability to resolve conflicts peacefully are equally important in shaping responsible citizens and future leaders.

Peace is not merely the absence of conflict; it is the courage to choose dialogue, respect and understanding every day. As students, you have the power to become ambassadors of peace and champions of positive change in your schools and communities.” Mr Normanyo said

Students were taken through practical approaches to conflict management, including dialogue, active listening, negotiation and peer mediation. They were also urged to reject bullying, rumours, intimidation, discrimination and all forms of violence that undermine peace and harmony within educational institutions.

A major highlight of the programme was the call on students to serve as Peace Ambassadors by promoting understanding, respect and cooperation among their peers. The Council encouraged them to lead by example, noting that positive character and peaceful actions have the power to influence lasting change within their schools and communities.

The Council further underscored the need to create safe and inclusive learning environments where every student feels respected and valued regardless of gender or background. Participants were encouraged to stand against harassment, embrace diversity, support one another and contribute to building schools where everyone can learn and thrive in peace.
