A group of newly employed young men and women from the Ketu South Constituency has paid a courtesy call on the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, to express their appreciation for her role in facilitating their recruitment as Safety Guides under the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA).
The beneficiaries, completed a two-week intensive training programme at the Ghana Naval Training Base in the Western Region.
The visit was aimed at formally thanking the MP for supporting their employment and contributing to their career development.
The Ghana Maritime Authority’s Safety Guide programme seeks to enhance maritime safety awareness, promote compliance with safety regulations, and educate fishermen, boat operators, and coastal communities on safe practices.
The initiative also supports national efforts to prevent accidents on Ghana’s waterways and protect lives and property.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the newly recruited Safety Guides commended Hon. Gomashie for her commitment to youth empowerment and job creation
They noted that the training and subsequent employment had equipped them with valuable skills, discipline, and a renewed sense of purpose.
“We are deeply grateful to Mama Abla Dzifa Gomashie for facilitating this opportunity for us. This employment has not only provided us with a source of livelihood but has also equipped us with valuable skills and discipline that will enable us to contribute meaningfully to maritime safety and national development,” a representative of the beneficiaries said.
Dzifa Gomashie, in her remarks, congratulated the recruits on their achievement and encouraged them to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, integrity, and dedication. She urged them to serve as worthy ambassadors of Ketu South and contribute meaningfully to efforts aimed at enhancing maritime safety across the country.

As Safety Guides, you have a responsibility to help protect lives and promote safety on our waterways while serving as worthy ambassadors of Ketu South wherever your work takes you,” Hon. Gomashie stated.

The employment of the young men and women is expected to contribute to improved safety education and awareness in coastal communities while providing sustainable livelihood opportunities for the beneficiaries.
