Mepe (Volta Region) – Story By:- Prince Nornorme
Five individuals have been arrested for allegedly stealing construction materials meant for the ongoing rehabilitation of the Mepe–Sege Road.
The suspects were apprehended by residents of Mepe on Saturday June 13th at around 11:25 p.m. while allegedly transporting chippings intended for the road project.
The individuals, identified as natives of Mafi Dugame, were reportedly intercepted during a community-led operation.
Hon. Amos Ahorsu Borlor, The Assembly Member for the Mepe Electoral Area, confirmed the incident to the Veritas News GH
According to him, he received a distress call around 11:00 p.m. alerting him to the situation.
We traced them through the muddy road from Mepe to Mafi Devime before arresting them near the Mafi Gbolofortorkor Junction,” Mr. Borlor explained.
He further disclosed that during questioning, the suspects admitted to taking the chippings.
They reportedly claimed that the poor condition of roads and persistent potholes in Mafi Dugame motivated them to collect materials from the Mepe construction site to repair portions of their community road.

The suspects have been identified as: Fiawornu Bersah, 39, driver, Adagblenya Godfrey, 17, SHS 2 student of Adisadel College, Ahoto David, Nutsunugbe Maxwell, 14 and Gbedema Freeman, 14
Mr Borlor noted that there have been repeated complaints in recent weeks about the disappearance of construction materials from the project site.
According to him, the recurring thefts have negatively affected the reputation of Mepe residents, as some workers on the project had previously suspected locals of being responsible.
Meanwhile, the four juveniles have been granted bail, while the adult suspect, Fiawornu Bersah, remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
