Mr Akonta Felix (Togbi Tenuvi II) moves to establish new basic school in Aflao Apekotuime

Mr Akonta Felix Akakpo, (Togbi Tenuvi I) The Youth and Development Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, has initiated plans to establish a modern Basic School at Afekotuime in Aflao.
The efforts which is geared towards improving educational infrastructure in the area will ease the pupil population pressure on other Basic Schools in the area.
The plan was formaly communicated during an engagement with the youth of Apekotuime on Saturday, May 9, 2026. The meeting formed part of broader community consultations aimed at rallying support for the proposed educational project.
According to Torgbui Tenuvi II, “The school will reduce the increasing pressure and overcrowding we currently experiencing at Viepe and Chicago Basic Schools, which continue to accommodate a large number of pupils from surrounding communities,” 0
He disclosed that preliminary preparations toward the construction have already commenced, including stakeholder consultations with landowners to secure a suitable site for the project.
Although a few concerns relating to land ownership are yet to be resolved, the development chief expressed confidence that consensus would soon be reached in the interest of the larger community.
As part of the groundwork, he has already secured two truckloads of sand been delivered to the project site, while 100 bags of cement have also been secured for the molding of blocks ahead of construction works expected to begin within the next two weeks.
Addressing the youth during the meeting, Torgbui Tenuvi II stressed the need for unity and collective sacrifice in advancing developmental projects within the area.
He emphasised that ongoing land disputes should not be allowed to derail initiatives aimed at improving the future of children and the wider community.
“Development must remain a priority, disagreements among individuals and land litigations should never supersede the collective interest of the people.

The announcement was met with excitement and optimism from residents and youth groups in the area, who pledged their full support toward ensuring the success of the project.
Some community members described the initiative as timely and transformative, praising the chief for his commitment to grassroots.
Beyond the proposed school project, Torgbui Tenuvi II has earned recognition within parts of the Ketu South Municipality for spearheading several community-centered developmental initiatives.
His interventions reportedly include the construction of ultramodern football pitches, support for healthcare infrastructure, and other youth empowerment projects across Aflao and adjoining communities.
The proposed Apekotuime Basic School is expected to significantly improve access to quality education for children in the area while easing infrastructural burdens on existing schools within the municipality.
