Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz says leading the Black Stars to the 2026 World Cup represents the biggest challenge of his career but expressed confidence in his ability to succeed.

The vastly experienced coach, appointed on a four-month contract, was officially unveiled at a press conference in Accra.

Queiroz said he was encouraged by the reception he received upon arriving in Ghana, describing it as a sign of the country’s passion for the national team.

“I want to express my gratitude to the federation, the board and the government. This is the biggest challenge of my entire career and I am ready. I will bring my 40 years of experience to Ghana,” he said.

He added that unity among staff, players and supporters would be key to success.

“I trust that with the support of everyone, we can achieve something special. I feel ready, and we must do it together,” he said.

Queiroz also voiced confidence in Ghana’s football talent.

“I am very confident. I believe in myself and the staff, and having seen the pool of players, Ghana has the talent,” he said. “If we play as a team, we can beat any team in the world.”

The coach is expected to name his squad for the upcoming World Cup, with two friendly matches scheduled ahead of the tournament.

The Ghana Football Association also confirmed that former internationals John Paintsil and Fatau Dauda would remain as assistant coaches.
