Over 270 young men and women in Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region have been enrolled into a fully funded apprenticeship and skills development programme, as part of a targeted youth empowerment initiative spearheaded by Mr Eric Edem Agbana, the Honourable Member of Parliament for the area.
The enrolment ceremony, held on Sunday, 22nd February 2026, forms part of a deliberate strategy by the MP to promote economic empowerment and self-reliance among the youth of Ketu North by equipping them with employable and income-generating skills.
Under the initiative, beneficiaries will enjoy full payment of apprenticeship training fees, provision of essential working tools such as industrial sewing machines, knitting machines, hair dryers, among others, financial support throughout the training period, and full coverage of graduation fees upon completion.
The event was graced by Mr Abdulai Ayariga Osman, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, and Johnson Samlafo, the Volta Regional Director of the National Apprenticeship Program, Mr Amenaki Johnson, Municipal Chief Executives, among other political and traditional heads
Speaking after the ceremony, Mr Agbana shared how the initiative aims to uplift the youth in the area,
“This is a clear investment in skills, productivity, and self-reliance. We are taking responsibility and removing the financial barriers that hold our young people back. We are equipping them with skills that translate into income, independence, and job creation. This is leadership that delivers opportunity and builds capacity,” he said.

stakeholders underscored that the programme represents a strategic investment in skills development, productivity, and self-reliance. They noted that by removing financial barriers that often prevent young people from pursuing vocational training, the initiative seeks to create sustainable pathways to livelihoods and entrepreneurship.
Each apprentice, organisers confirmed, has had their training fees fully settled and has received the necessary tools to commence practical training, alongside a cash token to support their upkeep during the training period
Organisers further explained that the programme is designed to go beyond short-term support, focusing instead on long-term economic transformation through skills acquisition, capacity building, and local job creation within Ketu North.
The initiative, which is one of the similar projects by the MP, has been widely hailed as a practical demonstration of leadership committed to expanding opportunity and empowering the next generation through tangible support and structured development programmes.
