Akatsi South Assembly Empowers Persons with Disabilities Through Income-Generating Support

‎Akatsi (V/R), February, 2026

‎The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has distributed income-generating items to Persons Living with Disabilities within the municipality, a move reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to social inclusion and economic empowerment

‎The initiative, which was funded through the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), specifically the allocation for Persons with Disabilities, aims to enhance livelihoods and improve the quality of life of beneficiaries who are usually less privileged due to their conditions.

The items, which include chest freezers, sewing machines, cassava grinders, plastic chairs, among others, were distributed upon request from the individuals, in line with the Assembly’s policy to support self-reliance and entrepreneurship among persons with disabilities.

The donation exercise, held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Municipal Assembly premises, was supervised by the Assembly leadership, including officials from the Social Welfare Department and the Municipal Chief Executive, Daniel Dagba.

‎Speaking during the presentation, Hon. Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive, described the exercise as not only impactful but fulfilling

‎“It was truly rewarding to witness the heartfelt gratitude from the recipients. This support is intended to empower them to engage in sustainable income-generating activities and become economically independent,” the MCE stated.

‎Some beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to the authorities for responding to their needs and investing in their future. Many described the gesture as timely and life-changing, noting that the items would significantly boost their small-scale businesses and personal ventures, considering their conditions

‎However, Mr Dagba advised that the distributed items are strictly for personal use and must not be sold. To maintain transparency and accountability, officials announced that routine inspections and monitoring exercises will be conducted to ensure the items are used for their intended purposes.

“Any beneficiary who is found selling these items will face disciplinary actions, with such cases referred to the appropriate disciplinary committee.” He cautioned

‎The initiative forms part of the Assembly’s broader strategy to promote inclusion, dignity, and economic participation among Persons Living with Disabilities.
